Innovation Bridge is a collaborative workshop organized by cross U, together with German VC acitoflux and research organization Fraunhofer, bringing together startups and companies from Germany and Japan to create new opportunities through space technologies. Following the first event online and the second in Bremen, Germany, this marks the third German–Japanese collaboration in the series. This edition focuses on the application of AI in the space sector, bringing together companies and startups from both countries to explore new business opportunities and cross-border collaboration, drawing on insights and practical tips from industry experts.

The shift toward “New Space” is redefining the requirements for space electronics, with shorter mission lifetimes, rapid deployment, and large-scale constellations driving the need for cost-effective and highly scalable solutions. In this context, nanoelectronics plays a critical role in enabling high-volume, high-performance systems built on advanced semiconductor technologies. This presentation by Erwin Hijzen, portfolio manager Aerospace at imec, explores how scaling in CMOS, heterogeneous integration, and system-on-chip design enables compact, low-power platforms that support mass production and faster innovation cycles. Rather than focusing solely on extreme robustness, we highlight design trade-offs that balance performance, cost, and sufficient resilience for shorter mission durations. We further examine how increased integration of sensing, computing, and communication functions supports highly capable yet standardized architectures, accelerating deployment across constellations and new mission types. These advances demonstrate how nanoelectronics is a key driver in making space more accessible, flexible, and scalable in the New Space era.

This program introduces Denmark’s space ecosystem and capabilities to Japanese companies through a focused Global Stage session. It highlights Danish technologies, commercial opportunities, sustainability, and potential Denmark–Japan partnerships. The target audience is Japanese space companies, startups, investors, and ecosystem stakeholders. Expected outcomes include increased awareness, new connections, and potential business and R&I collaboration.

cross U’s Africa Initiative Working Group promotes collaboration and business development with emerging countries through the use of space technologies. This session will provide an overview of the significance of space cooperation between Japan and emerging countries, as well as related policy and institutional initiatives. With a particular focus on Africa, the session will explore sustainable approaches to cooperation and future opportunities, ranging from capacity building in areas such as human resources and institutional development to space business development and real-world applications

At Nihonbashi Space Week, SST Think Tank will host Japan-Asia Industry Collaborations, a workshop exploring how stronger cross border collaboration across Asia can unlock new commercial opportunities for the space industry. Bringing together companies, investors and ecosystem partners from Japan and across the region, the session will focus on turning regional connections into tangible B2B partnerships, market access and business opportunities. The workshop will also feature Rising Stars of Asia, where promising space companies from across Asia will pitch their technologies and solutions to potential customers, partners and investors.
